What Visas Are Available?

In an effort to accommodate the many reasons why people immigrate to our shores, the Unites States government offers a host of visas to help provide a passageway for immigrants to work and live legally in our country.

Some of these available visa types include:

  • Diplomatic and government official visas (Type “A”)
  • Tourist visas (Type “B”)
  • Student visas (Type “F”)
  • Work visas (Type “H”)
  • Fiancee visas (Type “K”)
  • Extraordinary ability visas for athletes and other (Type “O”)
  • Entertainer visas (Type “P”)
  • Cultural / Tradition educators and trainer visas (Type “Q”)

For those that are unsure if they are eligible to apply for any of these visas, contact our immigration lawyers today – we can help review the details of your application and then determine if you have grounds to file.

What Are The Requirements?

As there are a variety of visas currently available, there are often specific requirements for each of those visa classifications. However, there are some common, fundamental basics that most applicants will need to provide, in order to commence the application process.

Some of these include (but are not limited to):

  • A current and valid passport
  • An original Birth Certificate
  • Education history
  • College / high school graduation certificates
  • Immunization records
  • X 2 Passport photographs
  • Character references from credible sources

…. Amongst many others.

It’s also worth noting that being able to demonstrate a desire and ability to work and be a contributing member to society can also assist with your application.

How Long Can It Take?

As there are many applications being processed by U.S Citizenship and Immigration Services  (USCIS) – formerly known as the Immigration and Naturalization Service or “INS”, the application process for most visas can range between 12 to 60 months.

With this time frame in mind, it’s important for applicants to have a dependable network of family and friends – as for most visas, the applicant is not permitted to work until the application is approved.

A notable exception to is the Type “B” visas that are offered to tourists, which can take as little as 2-4 weeks to be reviewed and issued if they are accepted.
