GM Recall Case Highlights the Need for a Strong Civil Justice System

CNN recently featured a story mentioning the GM Recall which reminds us all of the efficacy of our civil justice system, and, quite frankly, makes me proud to be a plaintiff’s lawyer.

Without plaintiff’s lawyers like us, corporate misdeeds which result in DEATHS would go unpunished and unchanged.  As Mr. Smerconish reminds us in the CNN piece, we need to do our civic duty in serving on juries.  Furthermore, despite all the vitriol and propaganda being disseminated by insurance companies, big corporations, their lobbyists, and other right wing interest groups, without access to the courtroom and the civil justice system, GM would just go on killing people through faulty ignition switches, etc, in order to save money.  Remember the Firestone tires that lost their tread and caused rollovers?  Cars that catch fire?  Drugs that kill you instead of heal you?  The list is endless.

So, next time you hear the term “frivolous lawsuit,” remember that without our civil justice system we would be at the mercy of greedy corporations who care more about money than human lives.  You can watch the CNN video below:
